Also known as top mounted sinks. These kitchen sinks are placed directly on the worktop. Laminate work tops or post formed work tops usually manufactured from chipboard are best suited to inset sinks. The worktop will have a cut out so that the sink can sit into it and the edges of the sink are sealed to the work top with sealing tape and fixing clips.

Undermount sinks have become very popular in recent times particularly since more and more people are updating kitchens and improving their existing homes. People are putting in kitchens that they will last. Sinks and taps are important finishing touches.
Undermount sinks are designed mostly for granite. Although in recent times with improvements in technology some companies offer postformed worktops shaped and edged to suit the sink shape. You can also use solid worktops which come in a variety of wood species.
Undermount sinks come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The pressed stainless steel bowl are available in half bowl undermount sink ( small utility bowl), single bowl undermount sink, large undermount sink and one and a half bowl undermount sink. In addition undermount sinks also come in square shape. These tend to be more expensive as they are hand welded and hand polished. More contemporary in style although cleaning particularly in the corners is a task!
The most popular is the Belfast Sink by far. Although there are now so many different choices even single bowl and one and a half bowl inset sinks in ceramic. In addition to ceramic sinks we also have composite sinks which is manufactured from composite material and resin which is machined to shape giving an extra dimension.
